This produces waves that spread synchronously throughout the entire brain.

Almost everyone is familiar with this effect from neon tubes, which flicker at a high frequency (50 to 60 hertz) and cause tension as well as making it difficult to sleep. This is because they operate in the gamma range (38 to 100 hertz), which in the brain normally arises during periods of high concentration, tension and the fight-or-flight response.

The same applies to the slow, calm flickering of a fire, which tends to lie in the alpha range (7 to 12 hertz), promoting relaxation and daydreaming.

When the brain is stimulated to oscillate at a specific frequency, the corresponding state – such as concentration, relaxation or meditation – is induced. It is therefore possible to externally specify and control a desired operating frequency and the associated state.

Sounds

The same effect can also be achieved using specially modulated tones. One method involves feeding slightly different, higher frequencies into the left and right ears via headphones (binaural tones). The brain then perceives a pulsation corresponding to the difference between these frequencies and begins to resonate with it.

The same effect can also be achieved with directly modulated tones, e.g. a carrier frequency of 220 hertz, which modulates in volume by 8 hertz (isochronous tones). The advantage is that this works even without headphones.

Neurotransformer

This was developed to produce both stroboscopic effects and modulated tones on a mobile phone or a PC and to control them in a timed sequence, so that, for example, over a period of 30 minutes, one is first guided into a state of deep relaxation and then back into everyday consciousness.

In addition, it also offers a number of useful features, such as modulated background music or voice recordings, which are directly imprinted as inductions whilst in a state of deep relaxation. These can also be played as subliminals, just barely audible behind the other sound sources.

A white noise generator can even be used to stimulate long, deep breathing.

Limitations

These effects can occur if the brain is receptive to them and not otherwise occupied.

However, in cases of pathological light sensitivity and epilepsy, stroboscopic effects must be strictly avoided, as they bypass the body’s natural defences and may trigger a seizure.

Brainwave synchronisation This technique emerged in the late 1980s in connection with ‘brain machines’.
